This year, Valve will release the long-awaited and much anticipated sequel to "Half-Life" for the PC.
And if the first "Half-Life" game raised the bar on action games, the expectation for "Half-Life 2" is that it will rocket the bar up and out of the building.
Gabe Newell, founder and managing director of Valve, said the company's goal with "Half-Life 2" is to close the gap between video games and television.
"We want to combine the storytelling tradition of movies and television with immersive qualities of a video game," he said.
"Half-Life 2" won't be released for the PC until Sept. 30, followed by a version for Microsoft's Xbox later in the year, but the game is already creating such a stir in the industry that it has somewhat overshadowed the release of two other Valve-created games.
