I think those performance cables are overrated. I have used both XBOX branded standard AV cables and the component video cables and they work fine. In theory, those gold plated extra $$ cables are supposed to offer better "peformance", but in reality you would need special equipment just to measure the difference between them.

    Default I guess it depends...

well, it all depends on the whole system you have. i mean, wut good is a better cable if the equipment ur connecting it too is a piece of junk?? the cable really wouldn't matter, would it?
as far as video cables and connections go, s-video is better than a composite connection bcuz it separtates the color information from the black and white information allowing better 3D recreation from ur cathode ray tube. basically, everthing looks more realistic and has more depth. if you have an hd capable tv, then you should really get the component video cable. that separates all the colors (ie. red, green and blue) and also separates the black and white. therefore the least amount of video processing needed and thus, less video 'noise' (static, shake, moire, etc.)
as far as the two brands you mentioned, monster cable makes only accessories that enhance audio and video performance. you could say they are a 'specialist' in the field, winning many awards each year in the home theater accessories and power supplies market. i highly reccomend thier products as i am a home theater electronics salesperson and have to know very specific information for all the technical guru's willing to spend money on the better-end products available.
    i hope that helps...

it has more video shielding and the nitrogen dielectric to help minimize video interference. didn't know they were both monster cable till after i posted...doh!

I think everone already knows that Component video beats out S-
Video which beats out Comosite video which beats out RF in terms of quality. My point is, I'm currently using the standard XBox branded component video cables with fiber audio connected to my widescreen HDTV. A friend brought over his much more expensive gold plated Monster component cables for the XBox and when I switched to that, I saw no noticable difference. I did not see anthing that made me say "oh wow what a big difference these expensive cables make". My friend said the same thing and was disgusted he paid more $$ for those cables.

Gerbil, I personally recommend the MS link cables. You can get the S-video or Component hookups (I have both) for $20 and they both look great. As someone else said, Monster Cable makes very good cables, but they are only marginally better than the MS cables, yet they cost 2X or 3X as much.

the only time ur gonna see a difference w/ component cables is when u have an HDTV and ur xbox set to 480p, not 480i. w/ a progessive picture, 480p, a mass of verticle or horizontal lines that are close to each other will not blur as the picture pans. where as the 480i picture will. also, diagonal lines won't look like stair steps when u look closely at them. however, again it depends on ur gear. there are hdtv's in projection and tubes. in projection tv's you will need to do a calibration (align ur red, green and blue projection tubes) so that ur colors don't bleed otherwise the 480p picture won't help much. if you look at a white object on the tv and notice a red, green or blue haze around the outline, your tubes are misalligned.
gold allows better signal trasfer w/o interference than other metals, other than silver, due to it being a better conductor of electricity. also, gold oxidizes much slower than other metals as well, so you will lose less signal transfer over longer periods of time.
usually in monster cable's upper end line, they will use silver in the wire instead of copper for faster signal transfer and gold connectors. also, monster cable adds more video shielding in there upper end lines as well. if you have a mess of wires or the video cables are running past electrical outlets or other electronic equipment, they will pick up radio waves that can cause ur picture to shake ever so slightly. the extra shielding in the wires will help keep this to a minimum.
if you want more info and you have yet to purchase anything, i'd be happy to explain any other questions about audio/video products that may come up.

i would say that monster cables' is better, simply because of the bandwagon brand name. THey are classicly the Bentley of cables... so I trust them.

As for hookups, I plan on hooking mine up to a big ass HDTV downstairs, and when I take it up to my room, I have the same hookup as the other guy, cept I got ATI Radeon AIW 8500DV :P

I sell the cables where i work, so i think i can speak fairly when i say whoever says they arent worth the money has obviously never used them.

The difference is obvious - buy monster cable

Get the MS cables or the $20 Monster cables you linked. The difference isn't noticable unless you are comparing two pictures side by side repeatedly like these retail guys do.

Take the left over $40, save it and keep saving till Xbox 2 is out. Then get yourself an Xbox 2 and an HDTV. You'll notice a much bigger difference between HDTV games, rather then some trivial increase in picture quality with those $60 cables.
