What's this weird reflective sticker?

Just bought Jade Empire. Inside the box is a piece of card stock with a weird reflective metallic "sticker" (I think I've seen this inside other games, too) whose purpose I cannot fathom. Anybody know what the heck this is and what it's for?

Anti theft device. Sets off the alarms if they don't run their little/big magnet over the game to disable that metal sticker.
