Since the manual says "don't leave the CD into the console when shutting off" (badly translated) it has to have somekind of affect?

yeah, turning off your box with the disk does not effect it. Also i dont think moving the box with the disk will also damage the disk, unless u like flip it or what not. It depends on your drive i suppose. Goodluck
