Downloadable Dead Space 2 Prequel Coming This Year
EA has announced a downloadable prequel for Dead Space 2, titled Dead Space Ignition. The game takes place on the Sprawl just before the events of the upcoming game, and will explain the Necromorph outbreak there. It’s coming this fall on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, to prepare for the proper sequel’s January release.
Don’t get too eager to shoot off limbs, though. Instead, this is a Dead Space puzzle-arcade game. Three hacking mini-games compose the title: Hardware Crack, Trace Route, and System Override. The story will be told in an interactive comic-style with player choices leading to four different endings. Rewards will be given out for completing the game’s endings, and those rewards (including an exclusive suit) will be available in Dead Space 2 for those who played Ignition.
Including Dead Space Extraction, which will come with the PlayStation 3 Limited Edition of Dead Space 2, this new announcement brings the tally up to four Dead Space games, plus the feature-length animated movie. Steve Papoutsis, executive producer for the franchise, commented in the press release that this is the "first of many exciting game extensions" planned around the sequel’s launch. If you’re a fan of Dead Space lore, EA is making sure there’s no shortage of it.
