New Mortal Kombat Teaser Video
The new Mortal Kombat is the one that will bring the series back into the spotlight, or so series creator Ed Boon hopes.
The confident developer told IGN: "We saw this opportunity to sort of give [fans] what they want on every single level - not just the fact that were going to an M-rated presentation, which is big, but give them the gameplay theyve been clamoring for.
"Theres been a lot of clamoring for Mortal Kombat to sort of return to the 2D stuff, and I think sort of Street Fighter has verified thats a good direction. And also giving them a lot deeper of a gameplay experience than weve ever given."
The series popularity tailed off in the N64 era and has since failed to regain its name as a top dog in the fighting genre. But thats about to change, says Boon, with the new game on PS3 and 360 releasing next year.
"Now, were coming back with a vengeance," he later told IGN. "As aggressively as possible in all those categories that I talked about. To me personally, Im confident that the people who play are going to walk away totally psyched to buy this game."
