Spider-Man, Wesker Confirmed for MvC

It’s surprising it’s taken this long to confirm the inclusion of what may be Marvel’s most popular character of all time, but at Tokyo Game Show, Capcom announced that yes, Spider-Man will have a spot on the roster for Marvel vs. Capcom 3. What came as more of a surprise, though, was that they also announced frequent Resident Evil villain Albert Wesker will appear in the game, too (via GameSpot, including image).
This marks the second character from the Resident Evil franchise to appear in the game, as Chris Redfield has already been revealed. Spider-Man, of course, was a given to have a roster spot, considering he’s appeared in both previous Marvel vs. Capcom titles. And also, because for God’s sake he’s Spider-Man.

Both character reveals come not very long after Capcom also recently announced Tron Bonne (from Capcom’s side) and X-23 (from Marvel’s side) for Marvel vs. Capcom 3, as well. This puts the current roster of revealed characters as follows:

Capcom’s side:

  • Albert Wesker
  • Amaterasu
  • Chris Redfield
  • Chun-Li
  • Dante
  • Felicia
  • Morrigan
  • Ryu
  • Trish
  • Tron Bonne
  • Viewtiful Joe

Marvel’s side:

  • Captain America
  • Deadpool
  • Doctor Doom
  • Dormammu
  • Hulk
  • Iron Man
  • Spider-Man
  • Super-Skrull
  • Thor

•Wolverine

The "Games Software Sales Forecast" included in Capcom’s latest financial report includes launch windows for a handful of the company’s upcoming titles -- the most intriguing of which is Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. According to the report, the game is set to launch sometime during the fourth quarter of the current fiscal year, meaning Capcom’s planning to release it some time between January 1 and March 31, 2011.

Capcom’s no stranger to releasing its blockbusters during the first few months of the year -- however, this strategy became riskier with the arrival of this year’s first-quarter "second Christmas." As such, the report states that Capcom "will further refine our long-term portfolio by deploying major titles in each quarter of the fiscal year." If only every other game company would be so prudent, we might be able to avoid the crushing load of games we have to wade through during the year’s occasional busy release months. How about it, gaming industry?
