(RUMOR) - Rumor: Molyneuxs Project Milo Canceled
There have been a few conflicting reports recently about the status of Peter Molyneuxs "Project Milo" title for Kinect, but a new rumor now states the young-boy-befriending simulator is in fact canceled -- for real, this time.
As Eurogamer reports, anonymous sources "close to the situation" claim the title was canceled yesterday, with "19 contractors" let go from Lionhead Studios as a result. Two teams will now focus on the Fable franchise at Lionhead, a source claims, with the original Milo team now making a new "Fable themed Kinect game" that will incorporate the technology developed in Project Milo.
If all of this is indeed accurate, Microsoft and Lionhead arent ready to say so yet. When reached for comment, they only gave Eurogamer a standard, "Microsoft does not comment on rumour or speculation" response.
Project Milo was one of the first games/tech demos ever shown off for Kinect (then called Project Natal), and featured a young boy named Milo who players could befriend and interact with using Kinects motion and voice recognition features. Molyneux recently acknowledged the potentially controversial subtext in a game about being friends with a young boy, which he called a "huge mountain to climb" before the game could be considered for release.
If this rumor turns out to be true and the technology is now going to be used in a new Fable game instead, then it looks like the answer Lionhead decided on was simply to walk around the mountain.
