LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Coming Spring 2011
Now that its announced, it seems like it was inevitable, doesnt it? TT Games and Disney Interactive Studios have revealed that the latest franchise to get the LEGO videogame treatment is Disneys blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean films, with a release date planned to coincide with the upcoming fourth film next May.
Simply called LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game, the title will feature Captain Jack Sparrow and "other familiar characters" (you know, the characters never particularly beloved enough for people to bother remembering their names). As with previous LEGO games like Star Wars and Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean will feature storylines from the three previous movies, as well as the upcoming fourth movie, On Stranger Tides.
"The action-packed world of Pirates of the Caribbean is a perfect fit for LEGO video games," said Tom Stone, managing director of TT Games Publishing. "With so many wonderful characters, in such amazing environments, our teams are having great fun -- and were sure that players will, too."
Speaking of so many characters, the game will purportedly let players take control of 70 different characters (really, there were 70 different characters in the movies?), and itll span over 20 levels and feature a two-player co-op mode.
LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is being developed for the Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, PSP, and "Nintendo DS family of hand-held systems" -- curious wording, although no clarification in the press release if that also means a Nintendo 3DS version is in the works.
