Kinect Fun Labs Unveiled

Kinect boss Kudo Tsunoda said at the Xbox E3 press conference that Fun Labs is the best way to experience "the innovation of Kinect".

As detailed earlier in a leaked Microsoft video, games include Build a Buddy, which enables you to "scan any object that you love and play with it in an all-new way", Googly Eyes, which lets you scan in an object and "be that object", and Avatar building title Kinect Me.

Meanwhile, Bobble Head lets you make yourself into a little Bobble Head, while Kinect Sparklers, which lets you express yourself creatively by drawing in the air with your hands.

Every Kinect Fun Labs "gadget" lets you take photos or create movies of your experiences that you can share through the Kinect hub in your friends feed. The first wave of Kinect Fun Labs gadgets are all powered by Unreal Engine 3.

Shannon Loftis, studio head for Microsoft’s Good Science Studio, said: "With Kinect Fun Labs we are introducing the newest innovative experiences with Kinect for Xbox 360, and Unreal Engine 3 is a great engine with which to make games for Kinect and Xbox 360.

"We carefully select the industry’s best game development tools to create these pioneering experiences and we’ve only just begun to show its potential."

Here’s the official Kinect Fun Labs description, in Microsoft’s words:

Kinect Fun Labs brings exciting innovation to Kinect for Xbox 360 owners and offers more extraordinary ways to have fun. Create magical moments with never-before-seen Kinect technology, including player capture, object scanning and finger tracking. Choose from a variety of Gadgets in Kinect Fun Labs - turn yourself into a bobblehead, bring your favorite stuffed animal to life or create art with your fingertips. With new Gadgets available all the time, try out the latest experiences, see and vote on creations from your friends, and rate your favorite Gadgets.
