Xbox Developers get SoundMax

I’m running late for work so here is a fast and easy way to post news. Yep, you guessed it copy & paste. Here is a press release that came out today talking about how the Xbox developers are getting SoundMAX.

Analog Devices today announced that it will make its advanced audio rendering software, SoundMAX® with SPX(TM), available to Xbox® video game developers through the Microsoft® Xbox Tools and Middleware Program. Xbox game developers will soon be able to incorporate SoundMAX "animated audio features"-realistic sound effects that change in real-time in direct response to a game player’s input-into their new game titles for Xbox.

What is SoundMAX you ask? All I can say is read this:

SoundMAX with SPX is a cross-platform audio rendering solution that provides highly realistic interactive audio for game titles. Based on both physical and event modeling technologies, SoundMAX with SPX alleviates the repetitive nature of sound-effects processing using advanced audio rendering techniques. This results in more organic sound effects that reflect user input in real time.

"Physically modeled audio technology, like Analog Devices’ SoundMAX is a gigantic improvement over traditionally used sound looping," said Drew Angeloff, Xbox Tools and Middleware Program Manager, Microsoft Corporation. "SoundMAX generates unique sounds in real-time, giving games an almost limitless variety of possible sounds, allowing game developers to build a more natural audio environment."

"This initiative fits perfectly with our commitment to commercialize our unique SoundMAX game audio technologies for the interactive entertainment industry," said Beth Doherty, Director of Developer Relations, Analog Devices, Inc. "SoundMAX complements the tremendous power of the Xbox hardware, allowing game developers to deliver titles featuring hyper-realistic audio for use on the industry’s most eagerly-anticipated platform."
