Xbox One and Xbox 360 getting original TV shows by early 2014
Hopefully whatever Spielberg has cooking for Halo will last longer than Terra Nova did.
Xbox will get original TV shows early 2014, according to the person in charge of it.
Microsofts TV executive Nancy Tellem told Variety the company will release unspecified original programming on Xbox One and Xbox 360 through Xbox Live "in the first quarter, at minimum second quarter".
Microsoft is yet to reveal details about its original programming plan, but we do know a Halo TV show is in the works, with legendary director Steven Spielberg producing.
Halo: The Television Series was announced at the Xbox One reveal event in May this year. Its a "premium" live action show with Spielberg on board to executive produce and video game developer 343 Industries heavily involved.
It seems Microsoft has had a tricky job explaining Xboxs offering to Hollywood, hence the delay in launching television content on the consoles.
"We arent Netflix, we arent Amazon, were a different animal," Tellem explained.
"Were neither or were a little like them. It all depends. The lack of black and white and this is the template and this is what were following is very difficult. As we continue to do deals everyones going to get more comfortable."
She added: "Depending on the piece of content, the deals change. Were talking about exclusives, exclusive first windows, exclusive second windows."
