Spencer: Xbox One is not Microsoft's last traditional game console

Past week we heard a lot about "Cloud Streaming" service for video-games. The buzz was so much that both Playstation and Xbox fans started to predict that Xbox One and PS4 are the last consoles running on local hardware.

But according to Microsoft Game Studios Head Phil Spencer, Xbox One won’t be last console running on local hardware. Via Twitter Spencer was asked to comment: "Do you think Xbox One is the last console as "we know it"? You know, running on local hardware."

To this Spencer replied: " I don’t. I think local compute will be important for a long time."

Spencer further went on to explained: "You can look at mobile, connected to faster networks, more cloud services but local power still increases each gen."

"Bandwidth caps clearly an issue, still believe [hardware and software engineers] working together will find local [hardware] scenarios critical."

Xbox One has just arrived on retail shelves so we are still far away from reaching a point where consoles won’t run on local hardware.
