Project CARS reminds us of its 2014 release with new trailer
Slightly Mad Studios, the developer behind Need for Speed: Shift, recently announced that its next-gen crowd-funded driving game will launch in 2014 on PlayStation 4, Steam OS, Wii U, Windows PC and Xbox One.
Project CARS will let players choose which motorsport they want to specialize in. Players still begin their driving careers in the karting world, before progressing to a motorsport specialization like GT, Open-Wheel, Le Mans, Touring Cars and more.
In each of these motorsports, players will be able to enter co-op mode with a friend as a driver or co-driver, and they will be able to manage a team of drivers who can compete together. The game boasts more than 10 game modes that cover every form of motorsport, a cloud-based social network, user-generated content, and a graphics engine that supports both 4K gaming and Oculus Rift.
The game is being developed with the support of World of Mass Development, a platform announced in 2011 that combines crowd-funding with a community that helps the developer build the game. The platform allows developers to submit video game ideas to the WMD community, raise funds for development, and receive feedback and support from players and developers throughout the development process.
Project CARS is one of the first titles to come out of the WMD development system. The project raised €3.75 million through the platform.
