First Party Games to Release on Game Pass Day & Date with Retail Game
What is no doubt seen as a huge surprise announcement, Redmond HQ has announced that Microsoft First Party games will see release on Game Pass, their subscription based service, the same day that the game is released in stores. This will start in March with the highly anticipated release of Sea of Thieves.
There is no doubt that Xbox gamers didnt see this coming. We know that we here at XBA are quite surprised, if not shocked, that this is the case. To have a full brand new retail release go live on the Game Pass subscription service is unheard of, well, its unheard of until today that is.
When announcing this new model, game like State of Decay 2, Crackdown 3, and future version of Halo, Forza and Gears of War were mentioned. These are all huge MS developed and published games, and they will be availble for purchase in a retail store, or on the Xbox Store, and you can now also look forward to playing them on the Xbox Game Pass. Quite the announcement to say the least.
Also announced today was that Microsoft was working with their retail partners to provide a 6 month XBL subscription, which is new to those looking for a way to check out Xbox Live. We think that it will be interesting to see how this seen by the gaming public, retailers, and developers as a whole.
