High Voltage Interview
Gaming Age has an interview up with Kevin Sheller and Jesse Helton, Producer and Software Development Manager, of High Voltage software. The interview is rooted around their development for the Next Generation consoles, heres a taste:
Gaming Age:Besides the amount of graphical power, are there any real differences between platforms? Ease of development, support from the main company (Nintendo, Microsoft, etc), etc.?Jesse Helton: There are quite a few differences between the development environments for each console. Developing for the Xbox is extremely similar to developing for the PC, because the Xbox uses Direct X. The Playstation 2 has its own libraries and APIs (Application Programming Interface) which makes the learning curve a little steeper. When we learn more about the Gamecube, we’ll give you a call.
It’s difficult for us to give a fair picture of support from the main companies. As a first-party Xbox developer, we are getting a tremendous amount of help and support from Microsoft. We can’t expect to get that same level of service from SONY because we don’t have a first-party relationship with them.
This interview is part one of a two part interview, so keep your eyes on Gaming Age for the next installment. Its full of good information, so be sure to head over and give it a read.
