Mad Catz Sponsors Pro Mountain Biking Team

Mad Catz Interactive, Inc., a leading manufacturer of video game accessories, today announced that it will be the main sponsor of a professional mountain biking team, "Team Mad Catz Orange," for the March through October, 2002 racing season. The season kicks-off with the Sea Otter Classic powered by SRAM, an international biking festival in which a series of races are conducted over a four-day period from March 21-24 in Monterey, CA at the Laguna Seca Raceway and surrounding area. Over 40,000 spectators, 10,000 competitors and 100 exhibitors and vendors are expected to be in attendance. "Team Mad Catz Orange," consists of six professional male bikers from the USA and Australia, and boasts Australia’s #1 ranked rider, Jarred Graves. The team will participate in a series of regional, state, national and world cup events throughout the season in the USA, Canada and Europe. Some of the more noteworthy races in which "Team Mad Catz Orange" will compete during Sea Otter Classic are Downhill Mountain Biking, 4-Up Mountain Cross Mountain Biking and Dual Slalom. More information about the team and the events of the season can be found on their website, www.madcatzracing.com, to be launched in a few weeks. "Mad Catz is proud to be the main sponsor of `Team Mad Catz Orange,’ a team which combines entertainment with competition," states Mad Catz President and COO, Darren Richardson. "Our decision to support extreme sports is part of our overall plan to extend the Mad Catz brand to the gaming community. The demographic of the people who participate in these sports is the exact demographic of people who play video games, therefore focusing on this particular sport was a natural fit for us." Mad Catz’ accessories for Xbox will be available for demonstration at the "Team Mad Catz Orange" racing booth in the tech area of Sea Otter Classic. In addition, Mad Catz’ logo will be featured on the front and back of the team’s jerseys and on banners throughout the event. Says "Team Mad Catz Orange" manager, Sean Heimdal, "We’re very excited to have Mad Catz as the main sponsor of our team this year. Its product line is as unique and as competitive as our riders, creating a perfect fit for what we seek in a team sponsor." Sea Otter Classic presents a special opportunity for professionals and amateurs to compete in a four-day biking extravaganza, each in their own divisions. Presented by main sponsor, SRAM Corporation, a manufacturer of bicycle components, the 2002 Sea Otter Classic will commence March 21st with a Professional Criterium race on Cannery Row in downtown Monterey, CA. For more information about the Sea Otter Classic event, visit www.seaotterclassic.com or contact Rick Sutton at telephone number (650) 367-1485 X 280 or via email at gruntman@galeforce.org.
