Delays in Europe for Xbox
People over in Europe will be seeing a delay in the Xbox, it wont show up until early 2002. The reason for this delay is simple, Microsoft wants to avoid a similar situation that PS2 faced this year. Sandy Duncan, Microsofts main man in charge of the console for that region, talked about the delay with MCV.
"The demand for Xbox is so high that we have revised our forecasts and we feel we can ship many more units this way. "The downside is that the launch will miss Christmas 2001 in Europe, but this is not a problem. We have spent time talking to the trade and the main thing is that we announce a launch date and stick to it."
A delay like this, while sad news for European games, it is a cautious move. If mistakes are made with launch of the Xbox in US, then they can be corrected before the European launch; and so Microsoft want to give themselves some room to work with.
