XBOX delays for Japan?!

Due to the lack of promotion and the usual shroud of secrecy from Microsoft, industry analysts and executives say the XBOX may be delayed until 2002 for release in Japan. Several factors are offered to the delay speculation of which one stands out the most.

Microsoft may face delays in Japan because many game companies there have yet to embrace Xbox, executives said. Only Tokyo-based Konami Corp. has publicly identified game titles it’s developing for the system. Microsoft needs home-grown games because Japanese users have different tastes than users in the U.S.

``Microsoft should have talked more with Japanese game development houses,’’ said Keiji Inafune, general manager of research and development for Osaka-based Capcom Co. ``Japanese video-game developers cannot afford to invest aggressively in making Xbox games because Microsoft has yet to show its specific intentions, such as what age demographic it is targeting.’’

With the XBOX team having delays on the network code for the XBOX, no broadband titles at launch, and several other factors being thrown into the mix, be prepared for delays. Oh yeah.. Remember you heard it here first! ;P More info on this matter can be found here.
