Xbox to get Final Fantasy
This article was found over at Xbox.Ign.com. It states that Square is in the works on bringing Final Fantasy IX to the Xbox.According to Nikkei Computer, a Japanese news service, Square is currently working on a Final Fantasy title for the Xbox -- and has been since the initial release of the development kits this summer. While this news is enough to get any Square fan bent into new shapes of fanboyism, the information is also shrouded in enough mystery to keep this from being the big announcement that Xbox fans have been craving since rumors of Squares association with Microsoft swelled during the recent Tokyo Game Show. The Nikkei news story confirms that Square is creating a Final Fantasy title for the Xbox. While this doesnt mean that Square is stopping production on any of its PS2 Final Fantasy titles, it does imply that some of the future titles may become multi-platform, which is exactly what Nikkei speculates in its story. According to Nikkeis insiders within Square, all arrows point to Final Fantasy IX, the online RPG FF adventure slated for release next summer, as the game being created for the Xbox. This also means that Squares PlayOnline online gaming service would work for both platforms, implying that PS2 gamers would be able to meet up with Xbox gamers online in the game.
Nikkei could not get confirmation from either Microsoft Japan, or Square Japan on the story. At the time of this writing, Microsoft US was not available for comment on the story. Check back later today as well have more details regarding Squares official word on the rumors.
After reading this article I dont know about you but I cant wait for Squares online gaming service. I think it is a great idea.
