Finally, the release of the "Halo 2" video game is on the not-so-distant horizon. The sequel to Xbox's signature title will hit shelves Nov. 9. Fans at screenings of "Spider-Man 2," "I, Robot" and "King Arthur" have already been treated to the latest "Halo 2" trailer, which will continue to play on the big screen this summer before "Catwoman," "The Village" and "Alien vs. Predator." But you don't have to leave home to see it: We've got the online exclusive right here. A little background for those not in the "Halo" know: The sequel picks up the story of Master Chief, a masked and armored marine who wages heavy-artillery war against alien invaders known as The Covenant, which look like humanoid scorpions. In "Halo," the Chief destroyed a ring-shaped planet and wiped out a fleet of the alien baddies. This time, the villains have decimated most of the galaxy's human colonies and have landed on Earth in the year 2552 to exact revenge. The first game took the genre of a first-person shooter -- in which players see only a gun and crosshairs as they charge through a maze killing monsters -- and allowed the gamer to wander, sneak up on enemies and create unique battle strategies. A big change in "Halo 2" is the ability to turn alien weapons against the enemy. Jump onto the back of an alien hover ship and you can hijack it by booting out the baddie! Get your hands on a two-pronged alien energy sword and lunge across a field and kill enemies in a single, crushing sweep! Gamers will have to wait some more to wage "Halo 2" war, but the trailer helps bring Nov. 9 a little more into view.
