Ed Fries tells all

Gamespot has conducted an interview with the vice president of Microsoft’s games division, Ed Fries. He talks about the big Sega news, the new Japanese controller, and how they might be getting involved with companies like Square and Enix. Here is a taste of the Q&A.

GameSpot: Does the announcement regarding Sega’s support of the Xbox help change the perception that Japanese companies aren’t showing their full support for the console?

Ed Fries: Things are going really well for us here in Japan, but a lot of times we aren’t really able to talk about it. This is a really public step that shows the kind of work that is happening behind the scenes all over Japan, with all the best Japanese game companies. The Japanese developers wanted an alternative to Sony and they have been really great to work with. They have welcomed us here and actually it has been really easy for us to have great conversations with all of them. It is nice to be able to come out and make a public announcement that shows some of the work that is happening behind the scenes.
