Xbox Turns A Profit
Xbox Turns a Profit January 27, 2005 - Microsoft today announced its fiscal Q2 earnings. This may be exciting news for business investors and tech-sector analysts, but for gaming fans, theres really only one tidbit which stands out. But its a big one: the Xbox is profitable. This quarter marks the first profitable quarter for Microsofts home and entertainment division, home of the Xbox. The division showed an operating income of $84 million in Q2, compared to a loss of $397 million in the same period last year. Why such a dramatic change? This year, the Xbox has grown significantly in market share and in terms of gamer cred, no doubt. But Microsoft is quick to credit Halo 2 and the subsequent growth of Xbox Live for the systems rushing success recently. Thats a story well go with. Of course, the next console generation looms, and its not at all certain who will prevail. Its easy to put money on Sony, as PlayStation momentum is obvious, but it can no longer be said that Microsoft will start at a distant second. Hopefully later this year, much more will be clear. Stay tuned.Source: http://www.ign.com/
