JLA Coming To Xbox In 2006

The Justice League Returns to Games Though its entry into video games has previously come in fits and starts, The Justice League is getting a new game treatment from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. On Thursday the company announced it is working with DC Comics to produce an action RPG based on the super hero super-team. Scheduled for release in fall of 2006 for PlayStation 2 and Xbox, Justice League of America will feature DC luminaries like Superman, Batman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, and Zatanna. Each hero, of course, will possess particular powers and fighting styles to use against the nefarious forces of evil. The game will offer both solo and co-op play. Warner Bros. Interactive is working with a third-party developer for Justice League while overseeing production of the title. The company will reveal more on the developer soon. "We are excited to announce a videogame that will bring the legendary super heroes of the ’Justice League of America’ to the next level for gamers," said Jason Hall at Warner Bros. Interactive. "The innovative and highly engaging combat system in the ’Justice League of America’ game will capture the strength and appeal of the characters, offering players a tremendously fun and rewarding experience." Gamers missed the Justice League recently when a project from Midway and Traveller’s Tales, based on the recent Justice League animated TV series, was canceled. Warner Bros. project, however, is not based on the earlier title, and will draw from the original comic assets, rather than the television show. DC Comics created The Justice League of America, the first group to star in a comic book, in 1940, when it was known as the Justice Society of America. The series ran until 1951. The series was revived as the Justice League of America in 1960, and in 1973 inspired Hanna-Barbera’s Super Friends, the longest-running comic book-based TV series. We’ll be back with plenty more on the Justice League’s new video game adventures as soon as details emerge. Stay tuned.
