Get Your Free Xbox 360 Gamer Card
Microsoft has unveiled a new section on the official Xbox website as part of the build up for the Xbox 360 launch, giving everyone access to their own Gamer Card profile and a number of other new features. Xbox.com took on its new 360-themed design earlier this when Xbox Live and the website were taken down for more than a day, and returned with the forums and "My Xbox" section remaining unreachable until this morning, when they were finally made public. As part of the transition to Xbox 360 a set of "Gamer Zones" have been created, with each user having to pick the one which they feel matches their gaming style best - ultimately meaning the "pro" hardcore gamers will be able to play similar like minded players, whilst families wanting a more relaxed time can pick the "family" zone. Annoying trash-talkers that everyone has the dis-pleasure of meeting on Xbox Live from time to time will no doubt jump at the chance of being classed as "underground". Fortunately for everyone else who just plays Live for a bit of fun and doesnt mind not winning, theres the "recreation" zone. Reputation, Gamerscore and Motto are other new additions to the existing gamertag system, whilst a Gamer Picture can be selected from a limited number of icons which are currently on offer, all making up the "Gamer Card" which Microsoft are hoping users will include in forum posts, blogs and websites - novelly helping to spread the word of the Xbox Live community. The new My Xbox section sees upgraded forums and an enhanced Friends List being made available, and in Big Brother style you can now see not only which friends are online and what game theyre playing, but also how long ago they were last online and what they were last doing - be it playing Halo 2, or simply chatting on the Xbox Dashboard.
