E3 2006: Konami Summons Hellboy
The last press conference before the big show was Konamis annual exhibition at the L.A. Public Library. It was full of new game revelations as usual, but one of the most surprising new announces was Hellboy -- a licensed actioner based on the popular Dark Horse Comics series and movie franchise. Developed by the Ty the Tasmanian guys at Krome Studios, Hellboy will see release for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Sony PSP sometime in 2007. "Hellboy unleashes the raw power of the comic book icon with devastating hand to hand combat, an intricate grappling system and fully destructible environments," said Wyman Jung, Associate Product Manager at Konami Digital Entertainment. "Followers of the comic book and movie will delight at being able to control the sheer power their favorite sharp tongued hero, while fans of action games will immediately be drawn into the games spectacular graphics and intuitive yet strategic gameplay." Boasting six different areas with highly destructible environments, Hellboy will benefit from the input of creator Mike Mignola, whose massive demon dude with an enormous fist sets out to apprehend a demented witch while simultaneously trying to stop an attempt at world domination by the spinal fluid-drinking weirdo, Hermann von Klempt. The ability to smash walls to divide groups of enemies for easier battles, grab rubble and use it as a projectile weapon, and a context-sensitive fighting system (that includes grappling and "rapid-fire blows") has also been confirmed. Players can even team up with a second user and take control of supporting characters like Liz Sherman and Abe Sapien in two-player co-op.Source: http://www..ign.com/
