11.6 Million Xbox 360s Sold Worldwide
Microsoft has issued its own take on the June NPDs, confidently announcing that worldwide sales of the Xbox 360 as of the end of June 2007 stand at 11.6 million units. The platform holder also notes that June sales of the Xbox 360 (197,000 units), although only around half that of the Wii, are around 40,000 units more than were sold in May. Microsoft states that the Xbox 360s 11.6 million worldwide install base is the largest of any next-gen console and that its lead in worldwide install base continues to grow. The latter is surely something Nintendo would argue against, having only yesterday announced that worldwide Wii sales currently stand at 9.27 million units. Microsoft is also keen to point out how well both first and third-party titles are selling on its platform. Over the last nine months 22 Xbox 360 titles from third-parties have made the monthly best selling games list. This is supported by record-breaking attach rates of 6.1 games and 3.2 accessories sold per console. Since launch 20.1 million Xbox 360 games have been sold, a total Microsoft states that Wii and PS3 software sales combined cant match. The stat is almost worthless though, given that the Xbox 360 has been available for around a year longer than its rivals. Microsoft also expects a bumper end to the year, pointing to triple-A releases such as Madden NFL 08, GTA IV, Rock Band and Halo 3.Source: http://www.pro-g.co.uk
