BioShock: Has Gone GoldToday 2K announced BioShock, one of the most anticipated titles of the year, has gone gold and is being prepped for its August 21 release date. Developed by 2K Boston and 2K Australia, which until this morning were known as Irrational Games, BioShock is a first-person shooter set in the devastated underwater city, Rapture. Players will be able to genetically alter their body with plasmids to gain supernatural abilities such as the power to shoot electrical bursts from their fingertips, unleash swarms of hornets from their veins, or take control of their enemies minds. Everything in the environment can be used as a weapon, including the water that is seeping into the facility. 1930s-era art deco design gives the game a very unique look among its peers. BioShock kicks off the holiday game season on August 21.
