Xbox Live Problems Caused by Server Strain
Speaking to Kotaku, Xbox group marketing manager Albert Penello acknowledged that the company had been unprepared to deal with the amount of people attempting to sign into Xbox Live over the Christmas period."We had the biggest concurrent day weve ever had on Live. We had more people than ever signing up on Live, it was 9 million, then 10 million, and it literally was that a lot more people were trying to get on, sign up and play than we had expected over Christmas." He also said that too few Xbox Live team members had been on duty to counter the connectivity problems.
"Its easy when were all at the office in November, but on December 25 its harder to get a hold of everybody," While Penello went on to suggest that the problems had now been addressed, and noted that he hoped a free Xbox Live Arcade title would satisfy Gold subscribers as a way of compensation, a smaller amount of users are still complaining of connection issues.
