Microsoft Wins Xbox 360 Patent Trial
While the jury ruled in favor of Microsoft in Alcatel-Lucent’s $419 million damages suit, it also said that the Paris, France-based firm didnt violate four of Microsofts patents. Microsoft had been seeking $11.5 million in damages.
According to Bloomberg, the most recent trial was the third of five between the two companies concerning alleged patent infringements.
Last year a jury ruled that Microsofts Windows Media Player infringed on Alcatel-Lucent’s patent for the MP3 digital-audio standard and awarded a record $1.52 billion in damages. The verdict was subsequently set aside and is now on appeal.
During the second patent infringement trial between the two firms back in April, a San Diego federal jury awarded Alcatel-Lucent $368 million after it found that Microsoft had infringed on two patents for touch-screen form entry and use of a computer stylus.
