Microsoft to Introduce Xbox Live Avatars
Avatars may replace Xbox Live gamer pictures, allowing users to create more lifelike and customizable personas, while Kotaku suggests that, much like the Mii system on Nintendo’s Wii, avatars could be implemented into "various arcade and retail games" as playable characters.
Unlike Nintendo’s Mii offerings, it’s also speculated that the Xbox Live avatar system will enable users to clothe their characters in various licensed outfits.
Kotaku also reports on an as yet unannounced Microsoft title called Lips, which is dubbed as the platform holder’s answer to Sony’s SingStar franchise, and suggests that a new Xbox Live channel hosting “social interactive games” is headed to Microsofts online service.
