E3 2008: SEGA Announces Stormrise
SEGA has announced a new real-time strategy game being built specifically for the console. Stormrise, under development at Creative Assembly, is being developed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Creative Assembly is best known for its Total War series on PC, but this is the first attempt by the studio to create an RTS specifically for the console.Stormrise offers a twist on the classic RTS genre by letting players lead the army from the frontlines rather than from a satellite view. The game will also allow players to command units in the air, on rooftops, and underground, for a vertically layered game layout. The game is set on a barren earth while the Echelon and Sai are battling to survive. The Echelon survived the past catastrophic event by hibernating and are "remnants of a superior technological people." The Sai are more tribal in nature and have adapted to the new inhospitable world.
"The Creative Assembly have proven their general leadership in developing RTS games through the award winning ’Total War’ series on PC", said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director, SEGA Europe. "However, Stormrise has been built from the ground up specifically for high def consoles to provide a more intense, frenetic style of game that, coupled with the all new control mechanic, will revolutionize the way RTS games are played."
Stormrise is slated for a 2009 release.
