Microsoft Embarking on its own Retail Chain
The company has also announced that David Porter – the former head of worldwide product distribution at DreamWorks Animation SKG – will be taking charge of the new enterprise.
“We’re working hard to transform the PC and Microsoft buying experience at retail by improving the articulation and demonstration of the Microsoft innovation and value proposition,” says Microsoft COO Kevin Turner.
“[Porter]’s unique and diverse background, coupled with his deep retail roots and distribution understanding, will be an invaluable asset in this long-term effort.”
Details on the retail outlets are slender in regards to how many stores will open, what product lines will be in the stores, and indeed if Microsoft has a plan for taking the business outside of North America.
In terms of how the store will look, a recent news piece from Kotaku had attached pictures of Microsoft’s concept store [pictured], which provides an interesting, if unverified, insight into how the stores will appear.
