Microsoft Announces New Development Kit
The platform holder’s new development and test kit (pictured) is fitted with twice the memory of the original. According to Microsoft, this additional memory aims to provide more efficient production for content creators, and will allow developers to smoothly run videogame assets alongside debugging and optimisation tools.
The new development kit also boasts a redesigned launcher interface that will provide developers with more key data and information.
At the same time, Microsoft has updated its XNA development tools. Along with improving the standard of video playback and providing new audio APIs, XNA version 3.1 will allow Community Games developers to infuse their work with customised NXE avatars, while the professional community can also provide more online features such as game add-on downloads as well as Live Party functionality.
“The level of innovation and the number of submissions we receive each year to Dream-Build-Play has increased exponentially because the development community is becoming increasingly familiar with the XNA Game Studio,” says XNA General Manager Boyd Multerer.
Microsofts announcement quickly follows Sonys unveiling of a new, cheaper development kit.
