Brett Close Interview
It seems that Team Xbox has taken the entire crew of Nightcaster hostage. This time they took the Senior Producer, Brett Close, for interrogation. Brett couldnt take the pressure so he cracked and told them all about the developmental evolution that the game has undergone.
TXB: What is the development history of Nightcaster? Did you see when you first thought of the game as a RPG, that it could be more than that?Click here to read what else they beat out of him.Brett C: You mean, is what we have now what we originally had in our brains regarding the game? I personally think the game industry is at a point where things are complex enough that its a very organic process to make a game. No one really knew what the hardware capabilities were going to be with the Xbox in the beginning. The fun factor was a very important thing to us. We would stop and completely re-examine the product every month or so, play it objectively, and see how we felt about the fun factor. We are finding that people really enjoy using this control scheme. The fundamentals of the game are the same as what our original theory was. The main thing that changed was some of the RPG elements, and making the game more of a shooter.
