Capcom Delays “Major” Titles
To avoid competition from other major titles, Capcom will hold back the releases of Lost Planet 2, Super Street Fighter IV and Monster Hunter Tri.
A Japanese Capcom investor document has revealed that several titles have been removed from the firm’s fiscal fourth quarter, which ends March 31, 2010, to avoid the competition.
The delays look to be worldwide and titles impacted include Dead Rising 2, Super Street Fighter IV, Lost Planet 2 and the North American and European release of Monster Hunter 3 on Wii. These are now planned to be "spread across all four quarters" of Capcoms fiscal 2011, which begins April 1, 2010 and ends March 31, 2011, reports gaming blog Joystiq.
Reasoning behind the delays is simply to "avoid competing with the major titles that other companies plan to introduce."
BioShock 2 and Mass Effect 2, among others, are due to be released early next year.
[Update] Capcom has since announced that its board of directors have approved a resolution to revise the forecast for consolidated sales and earnings that was announced on May 8, 2009 for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2010. In addition, Capcom plans to post a loss.
