Thread: New Xbox Color

  1. #1

    Default New Xbox Color

Microsoft is to bring a brand new, green version of its Xbox hardware to market.
The unit will be a retail version of the translucent green debug hardware that specialist press, developers and publishers already have access to, but which has hitherto been denied to Joe Public.

The green console, which will also release with a special green version of Controller S, will be a welcome addition to the Xbox family.

The move is yet another step forward in Microsoft's tireless marketing push that has seen Xbox overtake and pull clear of GameCube in the UK in recent weeks.

For the week ending November 10, Xbox enjoyed a 46 percent rise in sales, shifting 15,102 units, compared with 6,839 GameCubes over the same period.

The new unit should only serve to bolster this trend, an initiative that has also proved popular with Nintendo's console, which has been released in a number of different colours. The Xbox redesign is purely cosmetic, with internal specs remaining the same as current retail units.

It's currently unclear when Microsoft plans to release the new hardware: the first quarter of 2003 is looking likely, although speculation regarding a pre-Christmas launch is growing.

When contacted, a spokesperson for Microsoft refused to comment on the matter, but highly placed retail sources have confirmed to us that the unit is ready to go.

    Here's my thoughts:

The positive: Pretty cool that they are introducing a new green colored XBox.

The negative: Who in their right mind doesn't own an XBox yet!?

Looks cool but I think I will stay with my black one for now though. Unless of course mine dies and can't be brought back from the dead.

The green one would be tight, but like Shrew King said a pure white one with [either] a black or green jewel would be awesome.

When I first heard of Xbox, I thought the system would be silver like the chrome X. I would like the Xbox to have a new color because I'm tired of the color black systems. I prefer gray.

I don't really think that is true. Just a dev kit and someone decided to get the public all riled up with a picture. Then again, you never know. Personally I don't like it.

I think the Xbox looks good the way it is now. Platinum would be a perfect colour but my guess is MS doesn't want to copy the Lamecube.

Yea, this was posted a before (by myself) however since it was about a month ago I can understand a repost.

Here is another link to the story on it. It is being sold in the UK.

Microsoft's new coloured hardware is scheduled to mark Xbox's first European anniversary next year: full story inside

14:45 Senior British insiders have today confirmed that the newly revealed translucent green Xbox hardware is to be launched to mark the machine's European anniversary.
Logic dictates that the machine will launch on March 14 next year, exactly a year after Xbox's European release. Coincidentally, Xbox Live, Microsoft's online multiplayer service for the machine, happens to go operational on the same day. It's a crazy world we live in.

Microsoft made no comment on the subject today.

Reaction to the colour of the console, which is thought to exactly replicate the casing of debug units used by journalists and developers, has been mixed. We happen to think it looks groovy cool: hit this to take a look for yourself.

Then shows the pictures that were previously posted
