    Default The NEXT Morrowind...

I was just browsing through my OXM and I found an ad for a game that Bethseda(sp?) is working on. It's based on the Disney movie Pirates of the Carribean but...

    The ad describes this:

    - Incredible RPG
    - Open ended gameplay
    - Fight on land and sea
    - Great Graphics

Those aren't the exact quotes but it goes something like that... But taking a look at the screenshots it looks a lot like Morrowind... and with the whole mentioning of Open Ended Gameplay I am guessing this is basically Morrowind with a movie license... figured I'd warn all of you because it should be out before the movie... so June 9th or less...

    Any more info is welcome...

Another RPG like Morrowind, I can't wait. I just hope it doesn't have the bugs that Morrowind had. Anyone else know anything about this?

Wow, I didn't expect any one to post something like this. Master Gracey has been posting threads about this game like crazy the past month or two. All of the information you will ever need is in these forums. Just use the search buton and type in either Pirates of the Caribean or Sea Dogs 2.

This game might be cool if they let you make your own character and stuff...otherwise, i dunno. I'll probably still get it anyway.

and I did not mind any of the glitches in morrowind...like getting a bounty off your head for free simply by dropping your money on the floor...

Yeah? Well did you ever get it so you fall down a crevice in a cave after working so damn hard for three straight days... and then saving and realizing there is no way out of the cave? Did you? That's what I thought... now I'll go back to weeping about the many hours wasted out of my life...

That is a gutsy statement. You realise you are going to have to deprive yourself from RPG's for about another year or two?

That Pirates game sounds tight and that screenshot is beutiful. I read somewhere that you can use your bounty that you somehow get through out the game, and purchase ships and crewmen. I;m gonna have to check it out.

Pirates does look good. But, I'm gunna wait and see what the movie is like first. It has a real big suck potential.

I think that Disney backing this project is a double-edged sword. One one hand, they are an enterprise large enough to shell out the money for a quality game. On the other hand, my worst fear is that a potentially great RPG will be subject to being "Disney-afied".

Does anyone else think that the content may be comprimised because of the company's image?

I think it's possible Tennyson, but I didn't really notice anything in Morrowind that would be considered too risque for Disney.

I was definitely going to purchase it when it was Sea Dogs II, but I'll probably wait for a rental or some decent reviews now. Hopefully they won't change much. Although some will probably change to be more in line w/ the license.

Fable is gonna kill all the rpg's on xbox. Morrowind is good especially since it is only $20
    Gamecube...$149 PS2...$199 Xbox...Priceless!

What I like is it is going to use a lot of the same game play mechanics as Morrowind. Bethesda is using the same engine and style of gameplay in Pirates of the Carribean as Elder Scrolls III.

Of course, I was smart enough to get the superior PC version of Morrowind that has easily added content (and lots of it I might add) as well as the Tribunal expansion - and soon to have the Bloodmoon expansion.

VoodooPC - this one's for you!

Well, having seen that ad in the new OXM, it's become official that POTC is Sea Dogs 2 with a movie license. There was room for doubt before (it's never been announced) but seeing the Akella logo down at the bottom drives the point home.

As for Disney, they're not going to screw this one up. I may be biased as a fan of Disney (just look at my user name and avatar!) but I'll be the first to admit that they've been on the downhill slide since Ei$ner took over. But the drop in quality has hurt the company, and Ei$ner is on his way out. Sadly, they're going to botch the Haunted Mansion movie in a big way, but POTC has great potential both as a film and as a game.

I'm as worried as anyone about this game becoming watered down, since I've been looking forward to it for over a year, pirate games are my fav genre, and it had the potential to finally be the game to top Sid Meyer's Pirates Gold (which is over 10 years old now). But as a Disney fan who follows the inside dirt on the company, I'm pretty confident that this game will be everything we're hoping for.

And if you want to talk about Disney and the family image, EuroDisney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride features skeletons that have flesh hanging off their bones (as does the Haunted Mansion). The company is starting to dust themselves off, take some risks, and get back to what made them great in the first place. Ei$ner sees this, but, thankfully, he won't be around much longer.

I hope it isn't childish, but that's what I'm worried about also.

Morrowind is one of my favorite games despite the bugs. If Bethesda holds true to their development Pirates should kick a$$ too. I don't think Disney will have too much of an effect on the game other than getting some cash for marketing rights and not allowing the raping part of "rape, rob and pillage".
