Default Connecting Surround Sound to XBOX

I have a surround sound system (speakers)that is hooked up to my dvd player and can only hook up to my dvd player. I think I have to connect the audio cables to the dvd player and the video cable to the tv, but the xbox cables can't be seperated very far. I can't hook the audio cables to the dvd and hook the video cable to the tv. Can anyone help? Do I need to buy a seperate accessory?

I think what you're looking for is one of these:

    Advance AV Pack

    or

High Def AV Pack (if you have an HDTV)

    Welcome to XBA!

Pick up the Advanced A/V pack by Microsoft or the High Definition A/V pack by Microsoft. They have an optical input on there...use an Optical video cable.

I guess that the Advanced AV pack is for me, but I saw on the amazon website that you need some optical cable to be able to truly receive dolby digital sound.

Honestly, get any optical cable... A buddy of mine has the Research Accoustics one. Works great.

And, yes...it's true, the only way to get *true* 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound on XBox is with an optical cable.

I have the Monster 400 series XBox Component video cables...I had to purchase a proprietary optical cable for mine to work. Sounds awesome!!

How can I tell if my surround sound system can support an optical cable?
