Lynxfx...excellent point here...I mean, look at all the Wireless phone companies...they are giving out free cellular phones just to attract people to go with their service.Originally posted by Lynxfx
There are alot of things companies will give you for free just to get you to use their product. Online gaming is definately one of them and has been for years. For MS to change that now would be a huge failure and ultimately a money loser for them.
Besides, if Microsoft charges anything different than a one time fee, or just make it free...and if they charges as much as $10-15 a month, it wouldn't be worth it even to get it. Why? Not many people will be playing on-line...and for an on-line service to be successful, they need the users (gamers). So, for this to be successful, like any on-line network, it is not complete without players to act as opponents. Otherwise they can just boast about all the technology and not have a way to use it if they are not attracting people.
I, for one, will not pay $10-15 per month and I know that many others won't either. I doubt I would play on-line enough to justify this monthy expense. The entire project could become a flop and Microsoft, then, would design a different way to make it successful, either by making it free or providing a one time yearly fee, which is reasonable.
Even if they made a YEARLY fee to be as much as $40 or $50, I can hang with that. It's much better than $120-180 a year, that's for sure!!!
