Now that's weird - what legal right do they have over a home-made faceplate that Cliff willingly signed - he signed one just like yours for me less than a week ago at Comic-Con and commented on how cool it was.
I think they're just trying to scare you man but I'm no lawyer so I don't really know if they have a valid argument. I guess I don't really know why they would care. Maybe they have plans for their own GOW2 faceplate?

Actually, I did just send him a VERY long email explaining about the site, the plates, etc. I let him know that Cliffy B happily signed them and liked them, and even asked me to make two plates for HIM. And Epic President Mike Capps has a custom Epic Games/Unreal plate made by me on his Xbox, that was a gift from his fiancee.
They HAVE to protect their IP in every instance If they let one slide, they set a precedent of "tolerance" that might come back to bite them in the butt if someone ever started cranking these things out in a bigger scale.
I know they've laid the smackdown on a couple of other fanmade items, but I don't know if those things were attempted to be sold on eBay or not. One sculpture was just a gift to a friend, I think, when their lawyers jumped down their throats. Mark Rein had to offer an apology to the gaming community.
Personally, I think it was the high price that plate was going for that drew the attention.

Those 4 plates would be a great start to anyone's collection. They're all fairly rare - NFSPS and Saints Row more than the other 2. The database will give you a better background but if you're serious about starting with those expect to have a huge hole in your bank account after the fact.
