Xbox SmartGlass now on Tablets and Smartphones
The long-awaited Xbox SmartGlass has finally arrived for the following platforms:
Windows 8 and Windows RT Tablets and PCs
Windows Phone (7.5, 7.8, and 8)
iPod Touch (4th generation); iPhone (3GS, 4, 4S); iPad (1,2,3)
Android Smartphones only (4.x)
As you may have noticed, Android Tablets did not make the list, and this omission is likely to upset many who remember Microsoft’s E3 2012 promise that SmartGlass would work with "any smartphone, any tablet". It also turns out that if you aren’t running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on your Android phone, you’re also hosed. Hopefully Microsoft will expand the compatability of Xbox Smartglass to a wider selection of devices in the near future, but until then it seems as though this writer’s hope of checking his Halo Waypoint stats on his Sony S Tablet while playing Halo 4 Spartan Ops must remain a dream for now. Meanwhile, despite being Microsoft’s main competitor, Apple’s iOS once again has been given the most attention. Ah, the irony.
