The System Link Cable is simply a Category 5 Crossover cable.

If you own Crossover cables and want to LAN a couple XBoxes, then, you won't need to get the System Link cable...just use your Crossover cables (They are the same thing).

If you want to hook up your XBox to more than one other XBox, you'll need a HUB or a Switch...but, you have to use Patch cables instead of Crossovers.

Crossovers are used to link to hardware devices together. Patch cables require the addition of a HUB if you are networking.

    Hope that helps

This is the most common set up:

From your modem, use a patch cable and plug into the "uplink" port on the HUB. From port 1, use a patch cable to go to your XBox and from port 2, go to your Ethernet Card on your PC. Have fun!!!

Other set ups can be found at http://www.xbconnect.com/setup.htm
