Default Mafia: Looks to B 1 hell of a game!

READ THIS, all of it, ya see... or I'll have ya whacked! Ya see?

Mafia is a 3D action crime epic set in the seedy underworld of the 1930’s. Rise from the lowly but well-dressed Footsoldier, to an envied and feared Made Man in an era of mob hits, car chases, and bootlegging. Earn a reputation as a tough enforcer, daring getaway driver, and deadly hitman in your quest for respect and power within the Salieri Family.

    Features:
20 action-packed missions with sub-quests – luxury and riches are yours for the taking, if you do as Don Salieri has requested. From mob hits, car chases, shootouts, and more, complete the unsavory tasks the Family needs done and you will be handsomely rewarded.
Explore more than 12 square miles of the 1930’s American city, with simulated traffic, landmarks, and surrounding landscapes.
Convincing environments pull you into the 1930’s with their attention to detail and style. From seedy bars and hotel rooms to train stations and airports – every location is rendered in fantastic detail by the 3D “LS3D” engine, such as the Lost Heaven International Airport and Chinatown.
Gun down enemies with weapons like the Tommy Gun, Colt 1911, S&W model 27 MAGNUM, or pump action shotgun.
Drive over 60 different vehicles (including classics, roadsters and delivery trucks) with the most realistic car physics ever made in a game.
    Story:

The hero, Tommy, is a cabdriver who is happy to have a job in times of crisis. His joy, however, does not last long. Bya freak chance, he managed to save some members of a Mafia Family from being killed by hit men, belonging to another Mafia gang. Three Mafiosi, who were being chased, had jumped into his cab and ordered him to shake off their pursuers ... and Tommy, thanks to him being an excellent driver, managed to do just that.

Whilst the saved gangsters, seeing what a capable driver he was, offered him a job for their boss, Don Salieri, the killers working for Don Morelli only thirst for taking revenge on anybody who crosses their path. This leads to Tommy loosing his cab in dramatic circumstances, and thus also loosing his livelihood. Only by seeking refuge with Don Salieri's people saves his life. Visualising himself in a dismal situation of standing in a queue for some soup, he accepts the job offered to him by the Family.

In the beginning, Tom likes his new job and being a gangster. It gives him an opportunity to take revenge on Morelli's men, he is never short of money, and all of this he gets for giving someone a bit of a warning, or a small hiding. Among the town folk, he is regarded with great respect. He meets a girl, whom he eventually marries and they have a child.

Gradually, as times goes by, he starts to see the other side - the shady one - of his work: murders, assassinations, dangerous shootouts, and mad car chases during which the smallest mistakes means death. The real horror of his job gets through to him only when he is given an order to kill people who he knows personally, and who he likes. He is asked to kill the accountant working for the Family who co-operated with the police only to save his loved ones, and to kill his own wife's friends.... Tom is a respected man in the Family, and nobody therefore suspects him of not carrying out his assignments to the letter, even though sometimes he does do just that. However, nothing lasts forever.

This game is tight. I have it on the PC and I play it to death. It is a little more linear than GTA3 and the cars aren't as fast but the story is awesome. I will definitely get this game when it comes out.

Looks good, I saw it on Extended Play this morning think it got 5/5. I'd definetly rent Mafia, but I'd rather not buy it if it doesn't have any multiplayer capabilities...

iplayed thorugh more than half of mafia on pc.

the graphics are way too good for its generation.

i dunno whats so great about true crime, but i certainly think this one out does GTA. It creates a smooth 1930's atmosphere, and really draws you into the gameplay with the extensive worlds.........................................

I agree, I would love to see a game like this go on Live. Instead of having clans, we could have "families."

Just think if there way a GTA game in a huge city where thousands of ppl could be in at the same time over XBL, god that would be tight. We could own places and run crime rings and some could be cops and PI's, also I love the later games like this around the 1920's.

It's a pretty long game. Took me about two and a half weeks playing a few hours a day everyday. There are 20 over all missions with each of those broken down to smaller parts within them.

Another idea of the size of this game. I comes on 3 CD's.

EDIT: Oh yea, that's just the main game. Then you have the Free Ride and the Free Ride Extreme portions as well. I haven't really gotten into either one of those really yet though.

According to EB Games the release date is 5/1/2003. Although we all know that isn't a set date but an approximate one.

Edit: And yes it is a great game. When I first saw it I didn't think much of it because I thought it was just a GTA3 wanna be. Instead I think it is more of what GTA3 should of been.

In my opinion it beats GTA3.

I'd say that your computer isn't configured very well. I'm running a GeForce 2 GTS (32MB RAM) on a 1.3Ghz machine and it runs great. Or could be that your computer doesn't have enough RAM?

Mine runs on 256MB of DDR.
